The Process

Initially, the primary ingot (and elemental additions and master alloys, as required) are melted and homogenized. The molten metal is then atomized using AMPAL’s proprietary atomizing system, which allows for close control of the physical characteristics of the finished powders. The high efficiency collection system separates the atomized powder from its entraining air, minimizing emission of aluminum into the atmosphere. Next, powder is collected and sampled for quality control, and additionally screened if necessary.

At this point, elemental powder additions may be incorporated into the atomized powder to achieve a desired composition. The final product is then packed for shipping, using a variety of packaging options.
